Faxe
Faxe Municipality has a road network of 658 km. The maintenance responsibility is shared between the municipality and private contractors. This came as an consequence of the union of previous municipalities that were joined in 2007.
Pluto's solution for surveying road damages is both used for prioritising tasks across the internal maintenance team, but also for quality control of roads managed by contractors.
“The system revolutionises the way we manage our road maintenance. We can automate that important tasks, such as pothole repairs are initiated significantly earlier than before. The overview also allows us to maintain our roads efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner.”
Transparent and objective assessments
Faxe Municipality was drawn by the technology as it brought transparency and objectiveness to road condition evaluations. Since 2021, the road network in Faxe has been scanned by Pluto's algorithms improving the quality and reducing the overall costs which before were connected to third party consultants.
Not only is the solution used for data collection, the web map is also used for planning projects and creating tasks. This maximises the value of the data collection which now is conducted passively as vehicles traverse the road network on other errands. In comparison to previous efforts this has resulted in roads being surveyed in high detail with a monthly frequency as opposed to every 3 years.

We initially expected there to be challenges with understanding the new technology and incorporating it into the daily operations. New tool can sometimes be seen as a burden rather than an aid. In this case feedback from the workers were very positive with the solution, as it was easy to learn and reduced time spent on road inspections."

Political budget report
Based on the ongoing data collection, Faxe Municipality has been able to generate reports for political presentations of the road and bicycle network. By simulating different budgets, operational leaders and politicians were able to engage in a transparent discussion regarding maintenance priorities and budget renegotiations.
Proactive road maintenance
Road safety is a high priority in Faxe Municipality. Over the past 12 months, Pluto's AI identified 1.569 potholes in Faxe's road network helping allocate resources to the most critical damages based on traffic level and usage:
- 24 potholes were identified on bicycle lanes
- 166 potholes were located on roads with the highest speed limit
Further, Faxe also collected data on the condition of their road inventory such as faded road signs and damaged bollards that also are important for overall road safety.
